Locations

On Campus

Chapman’s policy requires permits for filmmaking; however, in the past we’ve been given permission by simply contacting Facilities Management (714.997.6658, M-F 8am-5pm) and letting them know the location/date/time & scale of project (# of dancers/crew, mobile phone shoot, school club project).

Off Campus
  • Permits cost upwards of $1500 – not necessary for a project of this scale
  • Be respectful, draw as little attention to yourselves as possible
  • If anyone asks, say “it’s a student film project”
  • Ask for permission if shooting on private property
  • DISCLAIMER: If you are shooting with out permits, you are doing so at your own risk. The club is not responsible for any fines/fees incurred.

Reminders

Clean your lens with a microfiber wipe (or shirt in a pinch!) before shooting

Check phone settings! 1080p or 4K at 24 or 30 fps is a safe, reliable way to go

Clipboard on set with shot list, media release waivers (on-camera talent), activity waivers (cast & crew)

Dance in/out of shots, even if isolating a moment in the dance. You may need it for a transition in editing

Be sure to get a master (uninterrupted EWS/WS of each scene and lots of coverage (many angles)
